THE DAY'S PICK FROM UAE'S BEST BLOG POSTS:
The realization
Yeah, imagine, finding myself bored at 9.35pm..one of the rare days
i've been home for most of the evening.. didnt go gymming today coz
was tied up at home babysittin the notorious handful called Adil..
Anyways, I wanted to put this down on my blog since the day it happened,
but didnt find the time.. As most of you would know by now, Dubai was hit
by a complete blackout on 9th June from mornin till evenin..it was a rare
occurence in this city which never stops functioning..and at first i was
a bit dejected as it was also my b'day that day, and sweating it out
doin nothin is not really my idea of a bday(though i hate any kinda
celebration anyways)..what i thought was a bad bday gift given to me
by circumstances, turned out to be a wonderful new awakening
for me..n it was the best bday gift ever..lemme explain..
The blackout meant that after awhile, all office-goers thought it best
to take advantage of it and leave for home early, and have a lil
exta weekend coz it was also a thursday..i also was making my way back
home, and the traffic was horrible, becoz the traffic lights were
out as well.. what stunned me was that the traffic cops were right
there in the middle of the junctions, sweating it out
( believe me it is HOT these days especially at noon),
with a bottle of water or two to give them company and cars zooming
past them dangerously...what was more touching was that drivers
stopped by to hand over bottles of water to these cops braving the
heat and helping the public..one might think "thats their job",
but how many of us would do it ?
More stunning stuff was to follow..at a few junctions, i actually saw
Dubai residents park their cars and control the traffic themselves..
n that is when it hit me properly...its all about being human..
its all about the humanity..and you know when it shows the most?
At times of a mass crisis of this sort..its just automatic..
you have drivers stopping by at zebra crossings, you have careful
drivers on the roads, you have people helping you no matter
how busy they are..
I'm glad the realization hit me, and hit me at the right time.
I also realized that it was the best B'day gift
i had gotten in a long long time.
